Lily's Got Skills!

It's time again for the Hershey Track meet (This first round is a meet of all the 4th graders in Springville)

Cole has moved on to Jr. High and Will isn't old enough yet so Lily was are lone participant this year.  She chose to run the 100 meter race and the 50 meters.  She had to pick one field event too so she picked the standing long jump.

Lily running her guts out in the 100.  She came in 3rd in her heat.

Please note her choice in footwear.  Magically the morning of the race Lily couldn't find her tennis shoes.  Cord and I tore the house apart looking for them (for about 1/2 an hour) to no avail -- so when her ride was here to pick her up Lily headed off to her track meet in Toms!

The night before the meet Lily started complaining that she wasn't going to win anything because she hadn't been running.  So she and the boys went outside and ran up and down the street having races of their own.  Lily did pretty well.

Then we marked a spot on the carpet for her to practice the long jump.

Oh dear.

She jumped as far as she could.

Oh dear.

She hardly bent her knees and needless to say didn't make it far.  So we gave her some pointers (like "try bending your knees and move your arms back and forth) and had her try again.

Oh dear.

We marked her spot and then Barry wanted to try.  Barry landed on the same spot as Lily.  Will then tried and passed both of them.  The great thing about Lily is that she doesn't take herself too seriously.  She laughed really hard and said. "yep I am not going to win anything tomorrow".

When Lily got home from school she told us that she made it to the semi-finals in the 50 but didn't have a good enough time to make it to the next level meet which is held in a few weeks.

Then she started laughing really hard and handed me a piece of paper.  It was a certificate stating that Lily had placed 4th (of all the 4th grade girls) in the LONG JUMP!!!

She is going on to the next level. We were laughing so hard we were crying.  It is just so funny that she is moving on.  So in 3 weeks Lily will compete in an area track meet.

*******************************

The kids school also had a talent show last week.  The kids had to try out for the talent show this year -- and Lily really wanted to sing but was super nervous to try out.  Needless to say she made it.

She and her BFF sang this song by Tayor Swift.  I really wanted to post video of them singing but I am forbidden. But here are some pictures of the future stars...

They did a great job.  I wish I would have taken a picture of the students in the audience.  They all had their hands in the air waving them back and forth. We were just missing a few lighters.

And finally...

this is what we saw in the parking lot when we left the school.

Oh dear.
